Why am I doing a decan walk in 2024?

Last year, I followed the decan informally, but one of my goals this year is to be more consistent in my practice. I plan to follow a few tarot studies throughout the year. I’m also excited to compare cards across multiple decks, using both RWS- and Thoth-based decks.

I also want to develop my astrology practice. I usually watch the moon phases and the sun and moon signs throughout the month.

What are some of the resources I’m using this year?

I’ve been collecting resources for this study for the past few months!

Decan Books

  • 36 Secrets: A Decanic Journey through the Minor Arcana of the Tarot by T. Susan Chang
  • 36 Faces: The History, Astrology, and Magic of the Decans by Austin Coppock
  • Healing Burnout with Astrology & Tarot: A Journey through the Decans of the Zodiac by Jackie Hope

Astrology Books

  • The Astrologer’s Handbook by Frances Saloian and Louis S. Acker
  • The Zodiac by Degrees, Second Edition by Martin Goldsmith

Tarot Books

  • Tarot Correspondences: Ancient Secrets for Everyday Readers by T. Susan Chang
  • Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom: A Tarot Journey to Self-Awareness by Rachel Pollack
  • Book M: Liber Mundi by M. M. Meleen

Tarot and Oracle Decks

  • Rider Waite Smith Tarot
  • Thoth Deck
  • Tabula Mundi Tarot
  • Oracle of the Radiant Sun
  • …plus any other decks I own and may want to compare!

What will I be doing?

My focus is on personal development and learning. That means that I will read extensively to understand the symbolism and stories behind each decan and journal my thoughts on the astrological and tarot associations. To ensure my practice is sustainable, I have created a “blog garden,” meaning my thoughts are posted in almost real-time! Instead of preparing a video or a blog post, my website makes live updates as I type!

Think how you plant the seeds in a garden but the flowers bloom naturally at different speeds and may even overlap with each other.)

This is scary! But I fear people seeing my work, and making it live means I don't get to fall into a deep cycle of edits and rethinking what I’m thinking. That means I can go back and change posts after further thought. Because of this, I am treating my blog as a garden of thoughts. I’ll document major changes, but blog posts will be connected as changes are made.
